Q4OS Linux with Trinity desktop

Q4OS is a lightweight desktop Linux distribution featuring the Trinity desktop with a minimalist approach. The Trinity desktop is a fork of KDE 3.5. Q4OS is based on Debian’s stable branch. The Q4OS 0.5.18 ISO is available here. The download is rather small it weighs in at 319MB. This is not a live CD this is an install CD. The install process is rather fast actually. I think I had it installed in 7 minutes. There is not much here but the OS but as I mentioned they are taking a minimalist approach. After I booted up the install it wanted to install the virtualbox guest additions. After that it offered to install google chrome.

Q4OS google chrome install

After that I started installing applications that I often use

Q4OS apt-get install wireshark

Q4OS apt-get install wireshark

My first impression is – This is a fast running debian based distro. It’s smoking fast even in virtualbox!

When is the last time someone used the term KDE and smoking fast in the same post?

Keep in mind, not all Q4OS features are completed, so it is still marked as beta software. Nevertheless the system is secure and stable enough to take a look at it. Let me know what you think in the comments section below.
