The DFRobot LCD Keypad shield is a very popular shield for Arduino. It includes a 2×16 LCD display and 6 momentary push buttons. Pins 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 are used to interface with the LCD via the standard LiquidCrystal library . Analog Pin 0 is used to read the pushbuttons. The LCD shield supports contrast adjustment and backlit on/off functions. It also expands analog pins for easy analog sensor reading and display. On top of that its really reasonably priced, you can get it for just under fourteen dollars from DFRobot directly here or cheaper on ebay. It takes no time to get this up and running. Now if you don’t need the keypad there are certainly cheaper ways (but not easier!) to get a two row LCD up and running. Here is the obligatory photograph of the DFRobot LCD Keypad shield running on an arduino uno compatible board.
